Malaysian prog rock outfit The Stalemate Factor make a speedy return to Live Fact KL this coming Saturday 21 September for The Doors of time, bringing with them some new and old friends along the way for a night through the doors of time of psychedelic progressive rock, indie alt blues carnatic fusion and pop sensibilities. Joining The Stalemate Factor are, from time past – AmIgone, and from times present and future - District Dawn and Itsjustsam.
The Stalemate Factor, led by Malaysiakini’s Martin Vengadesan (vocals, keyboard, guitar), will be featuring a mixture of psychedelic covers from the likes of Procul Harum, Jefferson Airplne, Pink Floyd and the Beatles, as well as originals from the band’s four studio albums, the folk rock “The Queen's Gambit”, the harder rocking affair of The Bishop's Sacrifice”, “The Knight's Flight” and the more recent “The Rook's Siege”,
all of them seeing the group espousing a left-wing political stance from the psychedelic rock band that draws its inspiration from the surreal and trippy music of the 1960s. The band’s line up also includes Joanne Timbuong (vocals), Thomas Toh (lead guitar), Harrie Sahrm (bass) and Malcolm Ambrose (drums).
AmIgone, a solo project by Tabh Chandra, is back after a 22-year hiatus.
Originally formed in Buffalo, NY in the 90s, AmIgone has been active in Malaysia's independent music scene. Tabh is now working on a new album, blending his love for blues, Carnatic Indian music, and 90s alternative rock.
District Dawn. From utopian ideals to dystopian realities, the boys from the district borrow from various eclectic influences and are rumoured to be a progressive rock outfit with orchestral elements.
They are currently working on finalising their debut album. District Dawn is Athan Leong (Keys, vocals), Gabe Derealton (Guitar), Gareth Lee (Guitar, vocals) and Thien Yi Yang (drums)
Itsjustsam (Sam) creates bedroom pop music influenced by R&B, pop and 80s sounds. Her songs express emotions and feelings with honesty and vulnerability, and she records and produces on her own.
Sam has also produced songs for various artists and projects, and recently performed at Queendom Fest, Lalaport Rooftop in Dec.
