Obadius's edition of The Sweatbox - "Oh, By The Way:" has reached its 9th showdown so he has invited OtherKind and, for the very first time, Rick Maia (Unusual Suspects, Sankeys, Ibiza) to join him behind the decks this Saturday, 17 March 17th up in the Elysium Box, KL. Micro house/Minimal are at the epicenter of Rick Maia's current style, where magic ear worms are created by delicious loops, groovy beats and the understated dance floor power they render.
Obadius has reached an experimental point in his career, where breaking genre stereotypes and simply playing great music is now at the forefront more than ever. Otherkind is rolling in the steam with his recent release on Kommunication Records – the long awaited "Convergence" EP, that also includes a dark remix of the same staple track by Dan Buri. They are both preparing a joint release on the brand new Sweatbox Records in April and not only did they go beyond any expectations, however, with every release they redefine themselves creating a delightful identity and a versatile presence not only as DJs but also as producers.
Rick Maia is a DJ with an extraordinary technical ability and a producer with music making waves with many other artists on the scene. He has the passion, intelligence and an understanding of the dance music environment which makes him a truly exciting prospect.
Rick’s previous residencies with ‘Going Places’, ‘Spacestation’ and ‘Gifted ‘ have included appearances at seminal London clubbing meccas including Turnmills, The End, The Cross, Ministry of Sound, XOYO and The Egg. He has played guest slots all across the globe including places like Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, El Salvador, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Poland, Slovakia, Norway, Serbia, Croatia, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, USA and Greece.
Recent highlights include DJ shows at Space in Ibiza, Warung and D-Edge in Brazil and Sub Club in Glasgow as well and festival sets at Creamfields UK, South American Music Conference in Argentina, Dimensions in Croatia and Exit in Serbia where he has featured alongside a diverse range of acts from Luciano to Subb-An to Kenny Larkin, Levon Vincent and Maceo Plex.
With production such a vital part of the modern DJ’s armory, Rick has devoted himself to the studio in recent months with his customary zeal. Ever the perfectionist, he took time to fully develop his musical style and create a platform where his ideas can be fully expressed. This paid off and results clearly showed with own original material already released on Re-UP’s Kina Music and future releases coming out on Inmotion and Inwave music are already planned.
Rick is an extremely versatile DJ who is able to adapt his unique sound to any kind of environment where he combines impeccable taste with impressive technical skills to superb effect.
