The Sweatbox and Pure Substance Management are joining forces this Saturday 12 October 2019 at Le Noir KL Club Lounge for the very first time to bring you cutting edge vibes, ace artists and hopefully, a proper musical and spiritual awakening for this special showcase of Code Black for all lf you techno lovers out there.
Introducing three artists who will join forces for the first time in this formation as well : Barker, Alam and Kuma. Their styles of techno will intertwine this week to deliver you the usual sweaty vibes of Saturday nights plus the brilliant curating skills of the Substance team.
Alam has been at the forefront of Malaysia's underground electronic music with the Ohrwurm collective for almost a decade , featuring some of the most mind boggling artists there are out there. As a DJ, his style encompasses the brilliance of well-selected tunes and a dynamic approach to DJing across genres.
Kuma and his 2 decades long affair with electronic music has made him one of the most in demand artists in the Asian electronic music soundscape , gigging around the world- from Ibiza to Berlin, from Myanmar to Japan, hosting his own Radio shows and delivering the freshest music and tightest sets worthy of acclaim and long nights of dancefloor action.
As for Barker, a musician, DJ and co-founder of the Leisure System label, he has helped push the boundaries of dance music, looking beyond the realm of 4/4 techno to explore left-field sound design and rhythmic complexity. His musical approach – both solo and in the duo Barker & Baumecker with longtime Panorama Bar resident Baumecker – unselfconsciously combines bass music tropes, breakbeat, dub and ambient elements while still maintaining a strong connection to the dancefloor.
A classically trained musician, Barker is also an active instrument designer and builder who combines coding skills with analogue, electric and acoustic instrument construction under the name Voltek. Most recently he worked together with Underground Resistance’s Ray 7 on a sonic architectural exploration of empty factories in Detroit using self-programmed analogue percussion instruments.
