Tongtong Asia to showcase S.E Asia's freshest female fronted bands this Saturday

GRRRLS! To the Front will be highlighting Southeast Asia's freshest female fronted bands at VOX Live, Kuala Lumpur on 8 February 2025, including Indonesia's Grrrl Gang, Thailand's YONLAPA, Singapore's Sobs and local favourites hawa and FUAD as well as a special DJ set by Fred Perry alumni, Aidaho.

Grrrl Gang are an Indonesian indie pop band from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Angeeta Sentana, bassist/vocalist Akbar Rumandung, and guitarist/vocalist Edo Alventa. Grrrl Gang's music is a celebration of their collective roots and a testament to the power of pop music to connect people across cultures and borders. Their lyrics touch on themes such as feminism, mental health, and relationships with a raw honesty that speaks to a generation of young listeners.

In their home of Thailand, Chiang Mai's homegrown indie rock/pop band YONLAPA is known for their richly composed neo-psychedelic music and beautifully crafted melodies. They've not only made a mark in Bangkok but have also won the admiration of Japanese fans, breaking through the local music scene to become a favourite of this era.

Dedicated to the power of pop music, Sobs are Singapore’s premier indie-pop propagandists. After releasing a breakout bedroom pop EP Catflap and a dream-jangle LP Telltale Signs that brought international embrace, Sobs now assemble a front-to-back indie-pop behemoth – Air Guitar – after a much anticipated three-year wait.

Hawa is the grunge/indie rock/alternative musical project of Malaysian indie musician Eff Hakim. In the recording studio, Eff writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music except for bass and drums. As a touring act, Hawa consists of Eff Hakim (guitar, vocals) Tiinesh (bass guitar), and Acap(drums, vocals). Hawa takes referrances form early 2000s local indie rock bands like Oag and Layla’s Launge as well as nineties bands such as Hole, Babes in toyland, Veruca Salt, Mazzy Star and more.

Fuad are a Malaysian Alt-Indie sibling duo from Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, blending Dream Pop and Alternative Rock. Lisa and Arief Fuad create lush, dreamy soundscapes exploring coming-of-age themes through their debut album Dispositions and latest singles Wait and See and Kopi.

Aidaho is the KL based DJ and founder of Good Night KL, as tastemaker, influenced KL's club culture with standout projects like the all girl electronic night Cherry Bomb, and Emo Night, the city's longest running pop-punk party.
