Delight in every bite at YBR After Dark.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur at The Five

To provide the greatest food, coffee, and other F&B innovations to everyone who passes through its doors, the café has upgraded its menu to accommodate an after-dark dinner option at its new location at The Five Bukit Damansara.

Their dinner menu features a range of dishes, including grilled meat, soup, pasta, and dessert, all of which combine contemporary flavours with a Malaysian touch. You are likely to uncover numerous delicacies that will captivate your palate among the many options on the menu.

Well known for its brunch menu, it now serves dinner to customers who have worked tirelessly all day. Dinner typically comprises grilled meat, such as Lamb shoulder with spicy Assam sauce (RM55) or Chicken thigh with fajita marinade and Chilli sambal jawa sauce (RM45), all of which are served with a side dish such as mashed potatoes. They also feature a large selection of pasta dishes, including Pesto orecchiette pasta (RM38), Salted egg squid pasta, served with fried squid and Beef pappardelle pasta with zucchini and carrots (RM46).

If you're sick of your subpar coffee and tea from work, give YBR's coffee, and tea with chocolate offerings a try since they're also available during dinner. For those who enjoy matcha, there are several matcha-flavoured beverages available including dirty matcha (RM16/17), matcha latte (RM14/15) and matcha tea (RM10).

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Bar seating

When you first enter, the café's cosy atmosphere and warm lighting make the area feel welcoming and comfortable, making it ideal for people looking to unwind after a long day. Yellow Brick Road is suitable for catching up with friends or going on dates. We were offered complimentary juice as soon as we were seated and during the entire evening.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Grilled corn ribs

First, we liked the grilled corn ribs as an appetiser (RM19). The fresh, sweet corn spiced with cajun and a spicy-sweet dry rub were delightful. The corn was curled into rib-like planks. Whilst it may have appeared simple, the corn was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the sriracha mayo was spicy, creamy, with a wonderful citrus zing.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Pesto Orecchiette

We suggest the Pesto Orecchiette (RM38) with Grilled chicken thigh, parmesan, ricotta and cashew nuts for pasta lovers. I enjoyed the Grilled chicken dish since it provides a new level of flavour that isn't there in plain cooked chicken. For the pasta, we could taste the richness of the cheese, the earthiness of the basil, and the smoothness of the olive oil. You could taste each component separately since the flavours were harmoniously blended and no one element dominated the others.

We also used some quenchers to refresh our palates in between meals. My companion ordered an Assamboi quencher and I got a mixed berry lemonade (RM18 each). The mixed berry lemonade had a balance of sweet and acidic flavours; however, the taste of the berries slightly overshadowed the lemonade. The Assamboi quencher, a light sweet delicacy to freshen the palate before diving into the main course was a delightful option to quench our thirst. It would have been ideal if more assamboi flavour had been added.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Australian Lamb Shoulder

For a dish with more western flavours, we chose the Australian Lamb Shoulder (RM55), which was grilled lamb that had Malaysian flavours incorporated into it, served with Truffle fries and spicy Assam sauce. Although we thought the beef was already excellent enough on its own thanks to the harimau menangis marinade, the spicy Assam sauce completely blew our taste buds away by giving the dish a little sweet and spicy kick. The meal could have been improved further if they had served it with a side of vegetables, such as coleslaw, roasted carrots or cauliflower for instance.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Barley Paella

The Barley Seafood Paella (RM52) with scallops, prawns, mussels and asari was the last dish we sampled. It was quite intriguing and a novel method to introduce customers to new grains that barley was used in place of rice to create paella. The flavours were intriguing; the barley was supple and creamy according to my companion. The prawn was a little chewy, but the scallops were well cooked. In short, it's more of a dish suited for people who prefer a more nutritious option.

We Review: Yellow Brick Road, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur - Tiramisu

We left the finest for last, so to round off our evening, we indulged in YBR's famous tiramisu (RM23). You must order their tiramisu when dining here! Not all places make it adequately, but YBR's tiramisu is well worth it. It has a powerful flavour of sweetness, a strong tinge of coffee and a dreamy aspect. You can also opt to add Bailey’s for that extra kick.

Overall, the YBR after-dark experience completely captivated our taste buds and we had a variety of options to choose from. Since it's really rare for cafes to stay open late, we'll no doubt return to sample the other dishes here!

The café is open from 8 am–10.30 pm with the dinner menu starting from 6 pm to 10 pm. Yellow Brick Road which is highly accessible for individuals who frequently use public transportation is situated directly as you exit MRT Semantan on the Ground Floor of The Five. There are numerous paid parking spaces nearby for those who are driving. They cost about RM5 for the first hour and RM3 for each additional hour. Parking is only RM5 per entry if you want to dine at YBR after 6 pm.
