Wired Music Week Returns With Connect KL for one day pop-up edition

Wired Music Week (WMW), Asia’s renowned electronic music conference, returns to Kuala Lumpur with its signature one-day pop-up edition, Connect KL. This one-day event comprising panels, networking, and parties will be held at citizenM KL, a new venue and content partner of WMW on 23 July 2022.

The return to KL marks its first physical edition since 2019 and is shaping up to be a great afternoon and evening of activity geared toward the electronic music, nightlife, events, and creative industries of South East Asia. Featuring 3 panels and conversations with 14 amazing speakers from around the world, some especially flying in for this, the topics range from mental health to diversity, empowerment, and also sustainability.

The theme for this Connect KL edition is The New Different, with many of the conversations and activities leaning heavily on the mental health of the industry. The edition coincides with the launch of an Asia PAC mental health initiative called Akar (www.akar.ws) created in partnership between WMW in Malaysia, Electronic Music Conference in Sydney, Club Conscious in Indonesia, and Sivilian Affairs in Singapore. The objective of the initiative is to help destigmatize mental health within the industry through conversations, research, collaboration, and events. WMW is committed to creating platforms for these conversations to happen through its various events both physical and virtual.

A key fireside conversation features three legendary figures in the electronic music landscape of South East Asia. Cher Ng, the visionary behind Zouk KL, TREC, and Iron Fairies KL is joined on the couch with Hayze, the prolific artist and producer as well as Aldrin from Singapore, former Zouk Singapore resident, producer, and one of the most well-known DJs to ever come out of this region. This fireside chat will cover their careers, journey through the industry, and important lessons learned through the lens of mental health fortitude.

Adam Mathews – Curator of Wired Music Week said, “WMW dug deep for this edition to create conversations that matter. We’ve been blessed to have so many illustrious speakers agree to jump into their respective panels, with some even flying in for this. CitizenM, our new venue and content partner, is the perfect location with a more boutique feel for an industry get-together. We can’t wait to see everyone interacting, chatting, and partying here in KL.

The full line-up for the day is here:

Speakers: Aldrin, Professor Alvin Ng, Dato’ David Gurupatham, Erin Khan, Hayze, LZZY, Matthew Dason, Meliha, Shin Tseng, and Rimka,

Moderators: Adam Mathews, Halim Ardie, and Lilian Hautemulle

WMW’s Connect KL will also see some very unique pre and post-event parties and networking sessions at venues across the city including W Kuala Lumpur, Rex KL, and even Wong Ah Wah restaurant in Jalan Alor!

Founder of Wired Music Week – John Beh said, “Connect KL was designed to not just be a great platform for conversations and networking to happen for industry compatriots and collaborators but also as a celebration of the city in which the edition is held. This edition sees the party under the watchful gaze of KL’s iconic Twin Towers and also in a regenerated cinema in the heart of Chinatown. I’m most excited to host a networking session with mental health lean at the iconic Wong Ah Wah Restaurant. Chicken wings, drinks, and great conversations with friends, old and new. There’s a recipe for an unforgettable experience!
