Funk a game plan, Montreal natives Dave 1 and P-Thugg had a ten-year battle strategy: from cult 80s fetishists on 2004’s She’s In Control to indie blog darlings on 2007’s Fancy Footwork, to international touring sensations on 2010’s Business Casual, to bona fide pop stars on 2014’s White Women.

And guess what? The ten-year battle strategy was merely the start of it. 

The Funklordz returned recently with a studio offering hitting harder than ever. Early 2018 marked the release of their fifth studio LP, Head Over Heels. The album comes through with unprecedented conceptual cohesion, signature sounds, and more collaborations than ever before.

They’ve brought along legends such as Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, John Mayer Trio, Erykah Badu), Jesse Johnson (The Time, Prince, Janet Jackson) and Raphael Saadiq (Q-Tip, The Roots, Solange) to coexist alongside otherwise unimagined colleagues French Montana and Stefflon Don on this intricate and ambitious ode to funk music, orchestrated by modern day masters of the genre. 

It doesn’t matter whether or not you’re a funk purist immersed deep in the teachings and ways of Parliament-Funkadelic and Graham Central Station or an absolute newcomer to getting down with the first beat of every measure.
