Substance pres Johannes Volk (Token) - Live Set + DJ Set

Substance is proud to present another stellar music soundscape in the form of Johannes Volk!

For his debut in Kuala Lumpur, he will be showcasing his Live Set (1 Hour) + 2 hour of DJ Set.

Johannes Volk is known for his releases on Cocoon, Axis, Token or his own label Exploration, producing conceptual techno. At heart he is a vinyl collector and his DJ sets combine an open minded, raw and hypnotic techno sound.

At the age of 14, Johannes came into contact with Detroit Techno, from this time he began to explore the roots of electronic dance music and collecting records. It was not long after that an obsessed Johannes began producing his own music, collecting and mastering the machines responsible for sculpting the music he was now in love with. Amazingly, his first record was released on Jeff Mills’s Axis Records in 2006, followed by a series of vinyl releases on other labels including Patrice Scott’s Sistrum and Steffi’s Dolly imprint. Such was Johannes’ musical output that he decided to start his own label to release only his material in 2011. Named ‘Exploration’, the imprint is dedicated to conceptual Techno and Science-Fiction music and has given Johannes full creative freedom to amazing effect, many of the series are regarded as highly sought after artifacts selling for high sums of money on discogs.

As a Dj, Johannes depth of knowledge and ear for a groove is rivaled by few. His skills as a Dj have seen him play alongside many of the greats at Berghain, Corsica Studios, Panorama Bar, Golden Pudel, Tresor, Batofar and many more.
