Moving into November with party selections in what's going on in clubs, DJ nights and electronic...
NBT is taking a sabbatical. After 21 years helming Kuala Lumpur’s premier jazz venue, the founder of No Black Tie, Evelyn Hii, has decided to take a sabbatical. While the club will temporarily close its doors, she will still be working for the future of jazz in KL by attending music festivals in Cuba and Mexico, part of her ever-passionate search to discover new talent and bring them all the way for KL jazz lovers to appreciate in NBT.
NBT would like to take this opportunity to thank their loyal patrons for supporting them over the years, with a special mention for the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur and ambassador, His Excellency Cristiano Maggipinto, for the bestowal of the honour of “Cavaliere of the Order of the Star of Italy” to Evelyn Hii, in recognition of the role that NBT has played in fostering intercultural relations between Italy and Malaysia through jazz.
And don’t forget, NBT intends to return to the scene bigger and better and to continue serving the community in more meaningful ways in 2020!
Walking into No Black Tie KL for the first time is almost like an initiation rite into a very exclusive fraternity that embodies the artistic soul and essence of Kuala Lumpur. Every city should have a venue that captures a microcosm of its society; and in this case NBT, as it is affectionately known by its loyal patrons, is this place. Founded in 1998 by Sarawakian born-US trained classical pianist Evelyn Hii, this once humble establishment located five doors from it’s original home has now become an institution in KL. It’s stage has seen the likes of Malaysia’s top singers and musicians and the region’s best, not excluding an impressive lineup of international acts over the years and most importantly, the watering hole of choices for KL’s intellectual, cultural, social and corporate elite.
Its sleek, contemporary interior is highlighted by the intricate balance of wood and glass and the performance/dining area is intimate enough for a romantic dinner yet perfect for the variety of acts that perform nightly – from jazz, classical, blues, folk or spoken word. Uncompromising in it’s acoustics and sound quality, NBT has the reputation of being the most sough-after venue for up-coming as well as established musicians and is the venue of choice for KL’s most discerning music-lovers.
NBT now offers tasty substantial A La Carte tapas as well as a special Concert Menu. Combined with an extensive selection of wines, dining at NBT is an experience that becomes more and more personal over time. This makes NBT a unique venue for events that have celebrated birthdays, weddings and launches of all kinds.
