BK is the official abbreviation for the borough of Brooklyn in New York City (where NBT’s feature artist is originally from), and KL, of course, is the abbreviation for Kuala Lumpur where he will be performing for 2 nights (26 & 27 October) at No Black Tie as “Ahmed Sirour presents BKL”…an interactive, part rehearsed/part improvised music performance.
It’s a presentation of Ahmed Sirour’s music, selected covers and remixes, and completely improvised compositions exploring various genres not only in Jazz, but also Soul/R&B, Hip Hop, House Music and more! His 2-night performance will actually be split into Part 1 and Part 2, so each night will be a completely unique experience that is part of a whole, so you don’t want to miss either night. He will be joined by special surprise guests each night, representing both KL and abroad.
Ahmed Sirour is a completely self-taught musician who has been playing professionally for 16 years, graduated from the University of Westminster, London, with a Masters in Audio Production (interestingly, he has no Bachelors degree), has produced 10 solo albums since 2012, and has appeared on 7 international compilations on both independent and major labels. His work spans various genres and he’s collaborated with notable artists such as N’Dea Davenport from the Brand New Heavies, Grammy-nominated duo The Foreign Exchange, Grammy-nominated Soul artist Eric Roberson, the world-renowned DJ Spinna, and many more artists and DJs from around the globe.
Ahmed’s song, “We Rep Brooklyn”, has also been featured in legendary filmmaker Spike Lee’s Netflix reboot of his debut film She’s Gotta Have It. Aside from music, Ahmed is writing his first book on his life traveling the world.
