Chinese New Year is a big and significant celebration in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia as a whole, not just for Malaysians of Chinese descent but for everyone else as well. It’s a time when family members of different faiths and ethnicities come together after being apart for a long time. It’s also a time when friends and co-workers gather to mark the season. Here are 10 of Kuala Lumpur’s best CNY restaurant deals we’ve compiled for you.
1. Thirty8 at Grand Hyatt, KL
Thirty8 has prepared several different menus for guests to choose from. This includes an a la carte menu, a Yee Sang menu and a sharing menu. For the a la carte menu, guests will be able to choose from a list of traditional favourites like Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice, Double boiled chicken and fish maw soup, and Szechuan Style Steamed Half Grouper.
There are three types of Yee Sang available on the Yee Sang menu, which are the Salmon Yee Sang, Crispy Fish Skin Yee Sang and Jellyfish Yee Sang. Two sets of sharing menu are available, a 6 course one for RM368 per head and an 8 course one for RM488 nett per person.

2. Makan Kitchen at Double Tree, Hilton KL
Rather than the usual sit-down set meal, Makan Kitchen is offering a special CNY buffet spread called ‘Abundant Beginnings’, complete with Malaysian dishes from the Chinese, Malay and Indian communities. You’ll be able to taste classic CNY favourites at their Chinese section, including Wok Fried Lamb with Dong Quai Black Pepper Sauce and Fresh Baby Grouper with Superior Soy Sauce.
There’s also Satay, Sashimi, Tandoori Chicken and so much more to give the spread a truly Malaysian feel. The buffet is priced at RM168 per adult and RM84 nett for children below 12 and seniors above 60. On the first and second day of CNY (25th and 26th January 2020), this buffet will still be on and will be priced at RM138 nett for adults and RM69 for children and senior citizens.

3. Still Waters at Hotel Maya, KL
This year, Hotel Maya’s CNY celebration carries the theme ‘Prosperity Abounds’. One of their restaurants, called Still Waters is offering three different set menus, each designed for a table of 10 persons. These menus feature items like Braised Eight Treasure Soup with Sea Cucumber, Roasted Chicken with Herbs, Wok Fried Salted Egg Prawns and Steamed Grouper with Mirin and Scallion.
The sets are priced from RM888 to RM1388 for a table of 10 persons and an a la carte menu is available for smaller groups.

4. Evolution Café at Renaissance, KL
Renaissance KL is offering three CNY dinner set menus this year, as well as a buffet spread. Their Happiness Menu, Prosperity Menu and Longevity Menu feature items like Fortune Yee Sang with Fresh Salmon and Abalone, Baked Butter Tiger Prawns with Cheese Prawn Rolls, Yin Yang Scallop in Sea Treasure Broth and Sun Dried Oysters with Fatt Choy.
These menu sets are prepared for tables of 10 and are priced from RM1888 to RM2288 per table. They will also have a buffet spread featuring traditional Chinese desserts like Nian Gao and Kuih Kapit for RM158 nett per person.

5. YEN at W Kuala Lumpur
YEN is W Kuala Lumpur’s Cantonese Restaurant, and it’s offering a generous amount of 4 different set menus, priced at RM188+ to RM388+per person. These sets include the Great Prosperity Set Menu, Happy Reunion Set Menu, Rich Fortune Set Menu and Wealth Treasure Set Menu.
They feature items like Stewed Money Bags with Sea Cucumber, Steamed Hokkaido Shelled Scallop and Steamed Cod Fish with Supreme Soy Sauce. Each set comes with Fresh Salmon Yee Sang.

6. Sapore, Ampang
Italian restaurant Sapore may not seem like your usual place to have a reunion dinner, but it is offering some very special Chinese New Year traditional dishes which include suckling pig (RM368), Fortune Chicken (RM88), Roasted Peking Duck (RM 88) and Eight Treasure Duck (RM138).
You can order any of these with their usual ala carte menu. As a special treat, they’re also offering a Nyonya style 20cm Pineapple Tart ( RM88) for dessert.

7. Youmiqi Cusine, Jalan Klang Lama
Rather than the usual Cantonese, Hakka or Hokkien style of cuisine, you’ll be served dishes from the Shen De province of China. This year they have several CNY sets from RM 488 onwards, and their healthy Yee Sang will come as part of the set.
This healthy Yee Sang is made from hand sliced fresh vegetables like purple cabbages, carrots, cucumbers and radish, with a generous amount of fresh raw Salmon. Their sets are divided into three types, which are the regular CNY sets, ‘Menguo’ or sets with their special stewed wok and ‘Pencai’ sets which are pots of meat, seafood and vegetables cooked together.

8. Golden Valley, TTDI (Halal)
Golden Valley is one Chinese restaurant that’s suitable for company CNY dinners where colleagues come from different faiths. They’re offering the Happiness, Fortune and Auspicious sets that can be ordered for a 5 pax table or 10 pax table.
Prices start at RM448 for the 5pax sets and RM788 for a 10 pax set. Items on the set menu include a Yam Basket with Kung Po chicken, Tiger prawns with Chef’s Special Sauce and steamed Grouper with superior soy sauce.

Wun Nam started operations in Tanjong Malim back in 1975, and now they’ve got a thriving branch in Damansara. They are your quintessential neighbourhood ‘Tai Chow’ with comfy air-conditioned indoor seating. They have 6 CNY dinner sets to choose from ( made for 10 persons) starting from RM799 per table.
You can expect classic Cantonese dishes like Suckling Pig, Steamed River Patin Fish, Claypot Pork Lard Rice and of course, Yee Sang with Sea Whelk.

10. Mohd Chan Restaurant (Halal)
Mohd Chan serves halal Cantonese and Malay fusion cuisine which is something different from the usual CNY fare. This year, they have prepared several CNY sets, but not all are available at all outlets. You’ll have to check their website for the full details.
The sets that are available at all outlets are priced at RM438 and RM538 respectively, with dishes like Crab Meat soup with shredded abalone, Siakap Tiga Rasa, Classic Butter Prawns and Sambal Kapitan Sotong as part of the mix.
