An international jazz vocalist, Deborah Davis who joins the Michael Veerapen Trio at No Black Tie this 4-5 January captivates audiences worldwide. She has performed with jazz greats, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, and substituted for Abbey Lincoln, Tay Brown, Freddie Hubbard and Art Blakey. Her New York performances include The Blue Note, Birdland, Village Vanguard, Sweet Basil, Smalls, Smoke, Jazz Standard, Iridium, Rainbow Room and the ormer Tavern on Green and Window of the World.
Deborah has sung at UN and US Embassy events, including a performance for then President Bill Clinton. In 2004 she toured as a US Jazz Ambassador. Deborah has sung with The Shirelles, jammed withs. Bon Jovi and Billy Joel, and opened for Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Santana, Eric Clapton, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys and more.
She self produced her first 3 CD’s, and produces annual jazz benefit concerts for the past 19 years at The Blue Note NYC raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Michael Veerapen is well-known in the Malaysian Jazz scene – having established his name as a Jazz pianist, producer, record studio head and mentor, and one of the strongest driving force behind the jazz scene in Malaysia. He launched his career even before graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with Suma Cum Laude in 1982, making a name for himself in the industry.
He is the musical director for some of Malaysia’s top performers like the legendary, Sudirman. In more recent times, he has composed and directed several highly successful musicals including ‘SuperMokh’, ‘Lat Kampung Boy’ – for which he won the coveted BOH Cameronian Award for Best Composer.
He was the music director, composer, and orchestrator for the grand and successful opening ceremony of the 2017 SEA Games held in Kuala Lumpur which was broadcast live to all major ASEAN countries
