MAY 11/12: Orquesta Yambeque at NBT

Hailing from Perth, Orquesta Yambeque is West Australia’s Premier Latin Ensemble working with the best Latin musicians in the country. The band offers a very unique and tailor-made Salsa repertoire and has recently celebrated 4 years on the local Perth music scene lead by Band Leader Mateo Lorenzo. Yambeque feel very privileged to share and interpret all the traditional music from the Caribbean Coast of Colombia, the sound of the 70s and the Golden Era of  Salsa in New York and Puerto Rico. Hear the all time greats from Havana, Cuba, and the romantic classics from Venezuela.

 

 

Yambeque performs music by Latin Legends such as: Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Oscar De Leon, Joe Arroyo, Cheo Feliciano, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Grupo Niche and many more. Not to mention Latin Jazz numbers such as “Manteca” by Dizzy Gillespie and “Mambo Influenciado” by Chucho Valdes and the Afro Cuban Messengers. It’s definitely a cultural experience and journey whenever you get the opportunity to see Yambeque perform Live.

MAY 11/12: Crackhouse Comedy presents Mohamed Ali (CA)

Mohamed Ali is a Somali Refugee who was raised in Edmonton, Canada and has been touring internationally for two years. His deadpan delivery on controversial topics and ridiculous anecdotes have famously given him a reputation as the “second greatest Mohamed Ali”. His routine reflects his unique belief that culture, relationships, and racial divides distract us from the real problem -- the Chinese.

MAY 11: Hanyut Special Showcase

The Impatient Sisters will be premiering the music video for “Hanyut” with a special performance for the night. Not your typical vanilla flavoured run-of-the-mill girl band, The Impatient Sisters writes and sings expressive tunes with bouts of romantic depth, blending together quirky soul and folk-pop to create a unique flavour.

 

 

Distinctly signaturised by haunting harmonies and lyrical peculiarity, the three sisters from Kuantan are happily addicted to making their fans happy with expressive songs on love, death, heartbreak, letting go, sleeping and other random observations of modern life. MAY 11: Bobo KL presents Tarakucha Unplugged

Sean Ghazi and Ida Mariana return four months after “Satu Empat Jalan” rang out the end of 2017 with a bright, raucous NYE countdown at Bobo KL. This weekend, they team up with one third of the terrer-menerrer big band; Hady Afro (guitar), Amar Azalan (bass) and AKZ on percussions for an unplugged programme of Tarakucha favourites.

MAY 11: Kaya the Band Live at Ril’s

Founded in circa 2009 out of sheer hours of jamming and ripping chords in the garage. Raging with rock’n’roll testosterone, the band played alongside various local musicians such as Salam Musik, and took the local, live music scene by storm. Fast forward coupla' competitions won and with a growing fanbase, Kaya is in the recording chapter with their latest debut album release Kaya “On Toast”.

MAY 12: A night with Ross Farren at Ril's

Ross Farren (guitar/vocals), Eddie Asakri (keys) and Stan Calvin (percussion) are a group of music students living the slow life in the back alleys of Kuala Lumpur. MAY 15: Cecilia Brunori & Reverse Quartet Album Launch

After graduating in Jazz Vocal Performance from the Conversatory of Music in Perugia, Cecilia Brunori received a scholarship from the Los Angeles Music Academy in USA (2010) to pursue her studies with Cinzia Spata, a professor at the Berklee College of Music and Katie Leone, the voice of Incognito Band (UK). Her repertoire of performances ranges from performing at festivals in Italy including one of the largest jazz festivals in the world, Umbria Jazz Festival. Diversifying her musical talent, she is currently working on an album with a well-known jazz pianist and composer, Danilo Rea.
