APRIL 6: Hameer Zawawi - (Kuala Lumpur) "Plug Out The Machines" Tour
After recording the "Plug Out The Machines" EP, releasing it and going on tour for a month in Manhattan (NY), Long Island (NY), Brooklyn (NY), Harlem (NY) and Boston (MA), Hameer Zawawi and his bandmates will be coming down to his home country next for shows in Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Johor Bahru (JHR), Kuching (SWK), and George Town (PNG). APRIL 6/7: Crackhouse presents Deepak Chandran (IND/SG) ft Aaron Aw
Deepak Chandran's rise in the world of stand-up comedy has been nothing short of spectacular. A regular headliner now across South & South East Asia, as well as being an established host at Comedy Masala Singapore. Deepak’s comedy is mostly observational, with a twist of politics, issues with middle class life and of course him being an IT Engineer. Deepak is also an avid cook, but unfortunately can only make 3 variations of Paneer, before starting over again (with Paneer).

Latvian violin virtuoso Baiba Skride guests at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas this week ahead. This weekend on 6 and 7 April, she will be performing with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Gilbert Varga. On Sunday 8 April, she will be performing an intimate recital at 3pm at the hall.

Actor-Singer-songwriter Chelsia Ng loves a good story. And what better way to tell a story than in a song? Performing songs by The Carpenters, Elvis, Eva Cassidy, Jewel and Alanis Morrisette, Chelsia will share some of her new originals too. Ui Li on keys, Wafi on bass and Wei-Ming on guitar—a charmer of a girl—make a cool little band and a definite light and easy evening at Bobo.

APRIL 6: Le Noir KL presents Q Sound
Q Sound: Since moving to Kuala Lumpur in 2009 from New York, Q Sound or better known as Marques Young has made profound contributions to the development of the growing jazz culture in South East Asia. Through his bands ‘Q Sound Band’ and the ‘Bassment Syndicate‘, he has led numerous performances at jazz venues throughout the region, including sold-out performances at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas as part of DFP’s Happy Hour Series. He’s also initiated several educational projects where he has had the opportunity to mentor outstanding young jazz musicians. Among these projects, the Jazz Camp at DFP, mentored by Marques and a number of young jazz stars from New York City, resulted in his appointment as artistic director of the Encounter Jazz Program.
Marques began his musical studies at age twelve with the euphonium under the direction of Gordon Manley. At sixteen, he was also playing the trombone, and in 2001 was accepted into Arkansas Tech University School of Music, studying under Dr. Will Kimball. During his undergraduate studies, he received numerous awards and honors, including an invitation to the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Solo Competition, where he was awarded first runner-up.
And most recently he’s collaborated with Malaysian electronica producers Dangerdisko on the new single “Free”.

Music comes to life with the John Thomas Trio. The talented drummer, John Ashley Thomas started playing drums since he was 3 years old. With credits that include working with Grammy award-winning flautist, Nestor Torres, touring the Blue Note circuit in Japan with Motown legends, The Three Degrees, and playing at numerous jazz festivals including Arts Alive Jazz Fest in South Africa and Jarasum International Jazz in South Korea.
Last year John Thomas Trio completed a five city tour in China and two jazz festivals: Beishan International Jazz Festival & Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, where they had the honour of sharing a double billing with piano great Joey Calderazzo and his trio. With Thomas are Ee Jeng Hin (piano) and Daniel Foong (bass).
