AUGUST 10: A Night of Divas at NBT

Lineup: Aina Abdul (vocals), Joshua David (drums), Wong Sylvia (keys), Hng Lih (bass). Aina Abdul is no stranger to Malaysian music scene. Fondly known as Aina Mentor, the title derived from the national prime reality television singing competition MENTOR which she got selected to participate in 2014. She came into the limelight after becoming the first runner-up of the show under the apprenticeship of Malaysia’s Queen of Rock, Ella.

AUGUST 10/11: Crackhouse presents Deepak Chandran (SG/IND)

A rising star in the world of stand-up comedy, Deepak Chandran is a regular headliner across South and Southeast Asia. An established host of Singapore's renowned Comedy Masala, Deepak's comedy is mostly observational, with a tinge of politics, a reflective analysis of middle class life, and of course, life as an IT engineer. Deepak is also an avid cook that has mastered the art of Paneer, Paneer, and Paneer.

AUGUST 10/11: Bobo KL presents Karen Nunis

Karen Nunis Torch Song Tributes with Chong Yew on Piano, Jordan Rivers on Guitar and Marina Zaini on Double Bass Karen Nunis is a jazz blues singer and songwriter with extensive experience in Japan, Singapore and the United States. Thrilled to be headlining at Bobo, she will pay tribute to all time jazz greats like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and more.

AUGUST 10: Chris Palmer & Evelyn Feroza at Le Noir KL

Brisbane singer-songwriter Chris Palmer starts the evening off at 8pm with Evelyn Feroza taking over at 11pm.

AUGUST 11: Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men at NBT

Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men are a folk-rock outfit who met in the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur. Often described as raw and vintage, the band draws their influences from groups of American folk and psychedelic rock from the 60s and early 70s, while also experimenting with the various musical sensibilities that each member brings.

AUGUST 11: Warehouse Sessions #8

The Warehouse Sessions is back but this time as a curated evening of independent wholesome indie goodness happening twice* a month on Saturdays! Come with an open mind, and you will surely have a blast. Featuring this night will be:

Imran Hilmi – a singer-songwriter/working-musician from Ampang, Selangor.

Leji – a singer-songwriter, poet, grunge-rocker and multi-instrumentalist who was born in the sleepy seaside town of Kuantan, located on the east-coast of Peninsular Malaysia but who has been active in the local music scene since ’96. 
Kim Lim – a singer-songwriter and acoustic fingerstyle guitarist based in KL.

Layla Sania –a 16 year old KL native. A young girl with an old soul she dreams to make it big singing jazz, soul and folk.

Open Mic Malaysia is the brainchild of Shaneil Devaser, frontman of The Endleaves. Established in 2012 and currently operating in Sabah, the Klang Valley and Penang, Open Mic Malaysia aims to create sustainable avenues for bedroom musicians, singer-songwriters and professional musicians to share their music and experiences with each other and the public, over evenings of wholesome indie goodness. AUGUST 11: Intim sessions #9 at Indicine

With David Soh and Rozella this night.
David Soh is a Penang born, KL raised, Soul Singer/Songwriter. He draws influence from many musical styles, including but not limited to Jazz, R&B, Acoustic Pop, and Indie. Although young in age, David is no stranger to the Malaysian Music Scene, having performed in many musical venues around Malaysia, over the past three years. David released his first Single on April 20th, 2018, and it hit #3 on the iTunes Malaysian Top Charts, #27 on the Spotify Malaysia Viral 50, with close to 100,000 streams to date.

 



Rozella is a freelancer writer and voiceover artist originally from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Ever since she was a child, she was always humming random melodies and making up lyrics to her own songs. Her fear of the spotlight kept her from pursuing her passion in music until a few years ago. In 2015, she moved to Kuala Lumpur and released her first single ‘Dark Side’ within a year. She was the winner of Tiger Jams 2016 and her latest single ‘Home to You’ was handpicked for an exclusive remix by Scottish synth pop band Chvrches.

AUGUST 12: Clinton Jerome & Terrence Ling Quartet

Clinton Jerome Chua is a fresh new face that is just starting out in the music scene. His genres include R&B, Pop, Soul, Jazz and he sings in both English, Bahasa Melayu and a little bit of Mandarin. He was born and raised in the city of Miri in Sarawak, Borneo and he moved to Kuala Lumpur after graduating with his Degree in Mass Communication and Public Relations in Curtin University, Malaysia. His material now can mostly be found on his social media, his singing videos on Instagram have been noticed by some of Malaysia’s best including Jacklyn Victor, JinnyBoy, Hafiz (Akademi Fantasia Winner Season 7), Vince Chong (First Akademi Fantasia Winner), Nanasheme, Reshmonu and more.

 

 

Terrence Ling currently teaches music in UCSI University and has appeared in numerous jazz festivals such as Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival, Publika Jazz Festival, Borneo Jazz Festival, World Youth Jazz Festival, Singapore International Jazz Festival and JB Arts Festival. The Terrence Ling Quartet comprises of Wong Sylvia on keys, Tan Han Yun on guitar, H’ng Lih on bass and himself on the drums. All musicians are the music alumni of UCSI University.

AUGUST 12: Le Noir KL presents Acoustic Fourplay live on stage

A live acoustic band, lined up of musicians who have been in the music industry for more than a decade. Ideally named, simply performing songs ranging from the late 60s up to the current Top 40s in an acoustic manner to sooth your every acoustic musical fantasy. With Hanz in the mix. Chris Palmer plays early at 8pm.

AUGUST 14: Cliff Wong Band at NBT

Cliff Wong is a drummer and former band leader of “The Doo Doo Rascals”, that has been actively playing and performing around the Kuala Lumpur region. He has performed for numerous acts from the indie music scene such as Amirah Ali, Russell Curtis, Elvira Arul, Sulyn Ooi, Melissa Indot, ROZZ as well as in the jazz scene, performing for the great jazz legend Michael Veerapen, Dasha Logan, Samantha Delune, Hailey Tuck, Rani Singam,

 

 

The Unity Jazz Project, Nat Quartet, and the most recent performance with Gabrielle Stravelli. Join him on this project that will immerse you into the world of contemporary jazz music. The band members that will be joining him for this wondrous occasion consists of Joelle Benson on keyboards, Wei-Ming on guitar and Daniel Foong on bass.

AUGUST 15: Bobo KL presents Aalex Termizi

Wednesday with Artist-in-Residence for August, Aalex Termizi. Inspired by Norah Jones, Zee Avi and Lianne La Havas, Aalex Termizi stole the show at the inaugural BoboNose in May. 

 

 

Blending jazz into a more consumable package Aalex connects the niche genre with the easygoing nature of indie.  Her precociousness stems from past battles with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but it's also what carved the tangerine, somewhat muffled vocals that complements her quirky personality and music.

AUGUST 15: Q Sound at NBT

Since moving to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2009 from New York, Q Sound or better known as Marques Young has made profound contributions to the development of the growing jazz culture in Southeast Asia. Through his bands ‘Q Sound Band’ and the ‘Bassment Syndicate‘, he has led numerous performances at jazz venues throughout the region, including sold-out performances at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas as part of DFP’s Happy Hour Series.

 

 

He’s also initiated several educational projects where he has had the opportunity to mentor outstanding young jazz musicians. Among these projects, the Jazz Camp at DFP, mentored by Marques and a number of young jazz stars from New York City, resulted in his appointment as artistic director of the Encounter Jazz Program.

AUGUST 15: Open Crack

Get over that mid-week slump with a dose of comedy as it’s supposed to be – uncensored and honest. Raw, fast paced and edgy, Open Crack! Witness the grassroots comedy scene with newbies, regulars and if you’re lucky a surprise guest comic. The best 3 minute set of the night will cash RM100 AND an opportunity to perform on the weekend shows. To perform, just turn up at 8.00pm on the night itself to sign up. List closes at 8.45pm. Prepare 3 minutes of material.
