Preview to Borneo Jazz No Black Tie 8 May 2018

No Black Tie presents the 13th Borneo Jazz Festival, 11-13 May 2018 at Coco Cabana, Miri. Featuring over 20 bands across 3 days and two stages, the festival has been specially curated by No Black Tie and promises and memorable weekend of great jazz music. As one of the previews, this 8 MAY 2018 sees Malaysia ensemble WVC with Isao Miyoshi & Grzegorz Karnas Formula performing at No Black Tie here in KL.



Isao Miyoshi was born in 1960 and he developed an interest in jazz after starting out with the guitar in high school. After forming his own guitar trio in 1992, Isao and his bandmates performed actively until a first album, “Sankichizm” was released in 1995. The album garnered favourable and supportive responses from their audience who appreciated the jazz guitar trio’s musical concept. Their international tours brought Isao to various parts of the world including participating in the Jazz Guitar Summit Concert held at Kennedy Center, Washington D.C, USA in 2000. To date, Isao has explored diverse genres over the years and is now part of an ongoing collaboration with Malaysian jazz pianist, Tay Cher Siang and ensemble, WVC.v

Grzegorz Karnas has worked with Poland’s jazz legends as well as renowned artistes from Europe’s jazz scene. He was awarded the Grand Prix of jazz vocal competition in Bruxelles, Belgium and Crest, France for two consecutive years, 2006 and 2007. Over the years, as a vocalist – his band has toured and made presence across the globe in countries like France, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Great Britain, Romania, Moldova, Belgium, Morocco, Denmark, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Azerbaijian, Vietnam and China.
