Malaysian rock artists Samarkand gets set for a 20 Year Reunion this 24-26 August 2018 at various venues around the Klang Valley.
Twenty years after getting together to annoy the neighbours, the original line-up of Kuala Lumpur progressive rock hopefuls Samarkand is back together.
The band features NR Lohan (guitars/vocals), Sujesh Pavithran (bass/lead vocals), Martin Vengadesan (keyboards/lead vocals) and Rudolf Frank (drums).
Samarkand has been on hiatus for many years while its various members have been involved in other groups such as Square Circles, Cats In Love, AL’ouest and The Stalemate Factor.
After re-connecting last year, they decided to play a series of shows in celebration of the group’s debut performance in August 1998.
They will be playing a selection of retro psychedelic and progressive material from their mini-album Spinning In Infinity.
“The band was fortunate to have good friends like Reza Aziz of Saturnine who helped us with recordings”, says Vengadesan of that project more than a decade and a half ago.
“We also had a brief stint with Synchrosound studios. At first we were going to be part of a project called Least Wanted Hits but we were eventually let go. The good thing is we managed to cobble together six songs in a range of styles to release as our debut mini-album in 2001.”
In addition, they will perform covers of tunes by The Doors, Grand Funk Railroad and Black Sabbath. The band will be getting together at the following dates and venues, with performances slated for about 9pm.
