THIRTY8 at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur offers a stunning 360 view of the city, delicious cocktails and creative dishes that makes any occasion a spectacular one.
Located on the 38th floor of the Grand Hyatt, THIRTY8 includes a bar, dining areas and a lounge, so you could spend a long evening there, or just pop up for a quick snack or drink whilst enjoying the beautiful sunset.
Recently, THIRTY8 has introduced a new menu at the bar that cleverly combines local flavours with traditional spirits, and has created a unique cocktail experience. To get a proper introduction to these new concoctions, we ordered the Chef & Bar Cocktail Flight (RM99++). This is a progressive cocktail flight featuring four petit cocktails that are neatly paired with signature bites from the THIRTY8 kitchen.
Unique tipples within this flight include the Kryptoni, a house-made pandan infused gin, Midori and egg white. It is like a ‘kuih talam’ in a glass! Coupled with a salmon tartare, this pairing created a sweet – salty balance in the month.
The THIRTY8 Sling is a uniquely Malaysian sling with vodka and hibiscus. They paired it with yummy, crispy prawn tempura. The Carribean Cluck is a spiced rum cocktail with a house-made falernum and paired with a savoury smoked duck.
The flight make a gentle landing with a dessert pairing of Anchoco, a house infused chocolate whiskey with chocolate bitters, and a sweet raspberry topped cheese cake. It was a very delicious flight and we had window seats with a dazzling view all the way!
If you are in need of more sustenance than the drinks can offer, then you can easily move into the dining section of THIRTY8 for an elegant dining experience.
THIRTY8 has a four course set menu (RM238++) that is sure to satisfy both your taste buds and your tummy, plus a four course set menu for vegetarians (RM170++), which made me feel very welcome.
The meat-eater in our group began his meal with the THIRTY8 Signature Fried Crab Cake with tomato relish and remoulade sauce – a light, crispy coating surrounding fresh crab meat. He cleared his palate with the very tasty Hot and Sour Seafood Soup.
He continued with seafood and had the Trota Salmonata in Carpione, a roasted ocean trout with crispy local vegetables on a bed of carrot sour cream.
He ended his feast with a creamy and delicious white chocolate-macadamia cheesecake.
The four-course meal comes with non-alcoholic cocktails. We sipped on zesty alcohol-free Mojitos and refreshing Greenboy asamboi beverages. We capped off our meal with an espresso and a long black.
On the vegetarian set menu, I started with the Buffalo Mozzarella Tartare, which was a salad of very fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and basil pesto. The Roasted Wild Mushroom Soup was creamy and flavorful.
I also enjoyed the Linguine, covered in tomato sauce and full of roasted vegetables. The sugar-free “guilt free” Pahang Chocolate Mousse was naturally sweetened with mango compote. With a bit of a crispy chocolate shell outside, it was creamy and delicious.
We had a wonderful time at THIRTY8. With the magnificent view of the city, the creative cocktails and fresh dishes, THIRTY8 makes for a memorable dining affair, no matter the occasion.
Given the popularity of THIRTY8, if you plan to go there during peak hours, it is best to call ahead - to be sure you can get a table. THIRTY8 seems to be very accommodating to non-meat eaters, so if you have dietary restrictions, be sure and let them know, and they’ll take good care of you.
