The late Nancy Wilson was a Grammy-winning influential Jazz singer whose polished vocals made her a platinum artist and top concert performer. She resisted being identified with a single category, especially jazz, and referred to herself as a “song stylist”. Influenced by Dinah Washington, Nat “King” Cole and other stars, Wilson covered everything from jazz standards, and in the 1960s alone released 8 albums that reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s pop charts.
Singaporean vocalist Alemay Fernandez is a veteran performer in the Asian Jazz scene. In her illustrious 20-year career, she has performed with the likes of David Foster, Gregory Porter & Antonio Hart, plus many more, and has sung for A-listers like Kevin Spacey and Serena Williams as well as Presidents & Prime Ministers. Alemay is known for her sultry tone, powerhouse vocals and an onstage presence that keeps the audience eating out of the palm of her hand. She is the Jazz Ambassador at the Red Dot Workshop Series.
Performing with Alemay for the evening is established Jazz pianist, producer, record studio head & mentor, Michael Veerapen, along with talented saxophonist and flutist, Julian Chan, who graduated with a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from The Aaron Copland School of Music in New York.
