FALIQ AURI TRIO / // /
Faliq Auri Trio is Malaysia's Celtic Fusion Group. Fusing the heat of asian chillies with the jungle rhythms of the Malaysian rainforest, Faliq Auri Trio has created their own "Pedas" Celtic Sound.
Faliq Auri Trio (F.A.T) is the brainchild of Faliq Auri, a pioneer and forerunner of Celtic Music in Malaysia. With his pipes and whistles, Faliq tours and performs extensively across the globe to countries such as USA, UK, Peru, Chile, South Korea, Cyprus, Ireland and South East Asia. During his travel to Ireland, he was invited to an irish session led by John McSherry, Belfast's renowned Uilleann Piper. Fascinated by John’s incredible piping skills, it inspired him to pursue his own celtic sound. Based on his vision that music is melody, harmony and rhythm, he started a trio.
Faliq returned to "Tanah Air" Malaysia and seeked long time friends AKZ and Suriya Prakash to further develop his unique approach to the tradition and create a blend of Malaysia/Nusantara Celtic Sound. With this the Faliq Auri Trio is born. The Trio is a chemistry of its members. AKZ, An Asian Youth Jazz Orchestra (AYJO) alumnus, is a powerhouse percussionist that delivers high intensity and energetic musicianship in his music and performances. Suriya Prakash is a traditionally trained musician of Indian and Carnatic music, a master graduate of Western and Modern music and an established audio engineer.
Their EP "Train to Belfast" is an introduction to their brand of Celtic music. “Train to Belfast” is Inspired by Faliq's travels and his memorable train ride to Belfast . Like a journey, the 5 song EP starts of traditional and moves into a fusion showcasing AKZ'S rhythmic interpretations of the bodhran grooves played on Malay and Latin percussions, alongside Suriya’s approach on modern harmony.
Music is borderless and a universal language; FAT embodies this very spirit in their composition and performances. Be prepared for a journey of melodies and rhythm as the band takes you from Ireland to the lands of Nusantara.
