Jakob Dinesen has been the most sought after tenor saxophonist in Denmark the last 20 years with 2 Grammys for Best Jazz Album in 2003 and 2007, the Danish winner of the Jazzpar Award in 2008, the Roager Prize in 2011, the prestigious Bent Jægen Prize in 2012, and the Palæbar Prize in 2013.
With a deep knowledge of Jazz history, a rich sound and effortless instrumental technique, Grammy-winning tenor saxophonist Jakob Dinesen is one of the most prominent and active musicians in Danish Jazz. He has been characterised as an emotional and virtuosic musician and a powerful conveyor of the great tenor jazz tradition. Jakob and his sax have romped around most of the world: Europe, Africa, Cuba, USA, Thailand, Japan and Australia, as well as received multiple awards. In 2003 and 2007 he received Grammy’s for Best Jazz Release and in 2009 he received his third Grammy’s for Best World Release.
Jakob Dinesen will be joined by accomplished Jazz pianist, producer, record studio head and mentor, Michael Veerapen for the evening. Launching his career before even graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with Summa Cum Laude in 1982, Michael was the music director, composer and orchestrator for the 2017 SEA Games grand opening ceremony.
