NewSound Album Launch

Established in late 2015 by jazz pianist John Dip Silas, NewSound is a modern jazz ensemble based in Malaysia that is taking the regional music scene by storm. The band name says it all, as their mission is to push the boundaries and limitations of jazz composition by constantly releasing and performing new and original material. Their sound is greatly influenced by modern jazz music with a touch of fusion, latin and not forgetting the good ol’ roots of straight ahead swing. They consist of Scott Murphy (tenor sax), Hiroyuki Yagi (soprano sax), Hor Chee Seng (guitar), John Dip Silas (keys), Icco Elnoel (bass) and Terrence Ling (drums).

Notable performances include the Johore Bahru Jazz Festival, the Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival and the Publika Jazz Festival. They also perform regularly at jazz venues such as No Black Tie, Alexis Bistro and Bobo KL.

Their debut album, “Bearing Witness” will be launched this evening.
