It has been a year since Zouk KL's 'School of Pop' joined the club's regular programming nights. Over recent months it has seen a steady but sudden rise of party-goers flock the grounds with the hopes of catching sounds from radio/ billboard hits of the 90s, to the hot-chart toppers today. What’s funny is that this revolution of time and relatability to the flow of music and rhythm is happening on Thursday’s rather than the more expected Friday or Saturday nights.

Party-goers are immersing themselves more in the music, an experience that converges with the more familiar concerts, live events and music festivals seen on the rise today. This means a lot more sing-alongs, more hands swinging from side-to-side along to the tempo of sets, leading to a similar concert vibe on the dance floor of Velvet Underground; something very different from any regular nights at Zouk KL. 

Remembering the over the top club scene in New York of the 70s, the synth 'videotheque' 80s and the colorful rave getups of the late 90s, its times like this that is creating a new vibe of dance culture in Kuala Lumpur. 'School of Pop' is proof to corporations and white-collar workers that you can still have fun on weekdays.
